10 Great Neighbourhood Restaurants in Chelsea

09 May 18

Fine-dining opportunities abound in the well-to-do district of Chelsea, with big-name chefs popping up on every corner in recent years. But sometimes, we all want something just a little more relaxed. Instead of the latest dining trends and ingredients your grandmother would struggle to pronounce, these are the best neighbourhood restaurants that Chelsea for unpretentious, honest-to-goodness cooking and a guaranteed warm welcome.

Daphne’s

A real Chelsea institution, Daphne’s has been dishing out authentic Old Country classics to the local neighbourhood for over half a century. Its light and elegant surroundings give it a firmly modern atmosphere, and you’ll also find some lighter options on the menu, including seasonal salads and carpaccio.

Tom’s Kitchen

No matter the time of day, Tom’s Kitchen is always ready to serve up seasonal comfort-food favourites in a relaxed and informal atmosphere. Breakfast and weekend brunch, in particular, are popular with Chelsea revellers battling the night before.

Sophie’s Steakhouse and Bar

Definitely not one for vegetarians or vegans, Sophie’s Steakhouse and Bar does exactly what it says on the tin. All their beef is dry-aged for one month before being chargrilled to order and served simply with a range of classic sauces. Be sure to sample one of their famous 10oz martinis.

Ziani's

Friendly, attentive service and consistently high-quality Venetian specialities such asTagliatelle Tartufateand Coda di Rospo alla Graticola (charcoal-grilled monkfish) keep locals coming back time and again to Ziani’s—perfect for a raucous family celebration or a quick and delicious bite to eat before an evening on the King’s Road.

Cheyne Walk Brasserie

Once a Victorian pub, the Cheyne Walk Brasserie offers French Provencal fare in luxurious yet informal Belle Époque surroundings. We recommend an after-dinner drink in the Salon, where you can sink into one of the deep chaise lounges and enjoy the stunning river views in style.

Riccardo’s

One of the best restaurants in Chelsea, a cosy Italian is sometimes just what the evening demands. In which case, you can’t go wrong with Riccardo’s, whose small plates of tapas-style Tuscan fare have been delighting local gourmands for over 20 years.

Great India

Ask any of Chelsea’s many food lovers about their favourite local Indian restaurant and they’ll be sure to recommend Great India. A family-run business established in 1960, expect to find unpretentious, wholesome cooking and even one or two local celebrities gracing its tables.

Eight over Eight

Famous for its black cod, this Pan-Asian eatery serves up a wealth of delicacies from across the continent, including dim sum, sushi and sashimi, tempura, curries and barbequed meats. Its quiet location, on a sleepy corner of the King’s Road, only adds to the sense of discovery as you walk through the door.

Le Columbier

A little piece of Paris right on Chelsea Square, Le Columbier describes itself as unashamedly French, erring on the side of bistro rather than haute cuisine, though every dish is still made with the highest attention to detail. What’s more, even international visitors rave about the attentive, friendly service here.

Rabbit

Specialising in wild game and foraged fare, Rabbit may be on slightly higher on the spectrum of laid-back local restaurants in Chelsea, but we simply couldn’t leave it off the list given its top-notch seasonal menu, engaging staff and the sense of occasion each and every visit delivers.
