Seven of the Best Cocktails in Chelsea

08 May 18

Given Chelsea’s reputation as a playground for the rich and famous, you’ll find no shortage of places to sip expertly mixed drinks in this stylish London neighbourhood. When it comes to the cocktails themselves, all that choice can sometimes be a little daunting, so we’ve selected some of the very best tipples to try on a cocktail tour of Chelsea.

Champagne Punch, Beaufort House

Belvedere vodka, fresh passion fruit, syrup and peach topped with champagne and served long, the Champagne Punch cocktail at Chelsea nightlife institution Beaufort House, is one you’ll want to savour time and time again.

The Mad Hatter, Barts

Through a secret black door in the Chelsea Cloisters Hotel reception, you’ll find Barts, a classy Chelsea cocktail bar serving perhaps the most memorable drink you’ll ever be served. Though you’ll want to invite three or four people to share this top hat (yes, you read that right) filled with a Prosecco-topped concoction of Russian Standard vodka, spiced berries and apple.

The Ivy Spring Cobbler, The Ivy Chelsea Garden

Whether you’re soaking up the sunshine in the flowering secret garden or taking shelter in the old-world orangery, The Ivy Chelsea Garden provides an endless array of picturesque settings in which to enjoy its much-loved (and photographed) cocktails. Served in a wine glass, the Ivy Spring Cobbler’s combination of La Guita Manzanilla Sherry, Botaina Amontillado Sherry, Crème de Rhubarbe and orange bitters goes down well, whatever the season.

Tiffany Rose, Bluebird Chelsea

A table in the courtyard at neighbourhood favourite Bluebird Chelsea may be hard to come by when the sun shows its face, but it’s well worth the trouble—if only to sample the sumptuous Tiffany Rose cocktail: Lanique rose petal vodka, crème de cassis, muddled fresh lime and strawberries topped with Chandon Sparkline Rosé.

Knickerbocker, The Botanist

The light and airy atmosphere at The Botanist makes this the perfect stop for breakfast cocktails or a bottomless brunch. In elegance befitting its Sloane Square location, we recommend sipping the unbeatable Knickerbocker—an artful mix of Santa Teresa Claro rum, Cointreau, raspberries, marshmallows and lime.

Rose Petal Martini, Eight Over Eight

The buzzing pan-Asian eatery Eight Over Eight may be better known for its delicious gyoza and mouth-watering dim sum, but its cocktails are some of the best in Chelsea. A Rose Petal Martini, made with Bombay sapphire, lychee and rose, shaken with fresh apple juice, is perhaps their finest offering.

English Sparkling PearSophie’s Steakhouse and Bar

Don’t let the name fool you—Sophie’s is just as much about the drinks as it is the whopping chunks of meat it serves up to Chelsea’s carnivorous clientele. Famous, in fact, for its 10oz cocktails, don’t leave without sampling the English Sparkling Pear, a mix of pear vodka, elderflower and Nyetimber sparkling wine.
