Why to visit London in the fall.

London in the fall: so magical it’s somewhat difficult to express.

Every Autumn, a torrent of golden foliage sweeps across the city, bringing a unique beauty and a certain magical feeling that needs to be experienced to truly be understood.

Yes, Fall is arguably one of the best times to visit London for several reasons. So if you haven’t yet visited England’s capital city in the fall, here’s a few reasons why you should plan a trip.

It’s simply stunning.

Did you know that London has over 8 million trees, making it the world’s largest urban forest?

We are abundant in our Historical parks, gardens and stunning outdoor spaces - and although we’re blessed that our city is beautiful all year round, Mother Nature sure knows how to put on a breath-taking show from September to November!

A lot of trees means millions and millions of leaves! So you can imagine how picturesque our world becomes when it’s transformed into a sea of vibrant shades of orange and brown each year.

We’d recommend visiting Richmond Park, where you can hang out with the locals. (the deer that roam freely in the park!)

Plus, you’ll be able to enjoy the serenity without the flock of summer crowds, which is exactly my next point!

Less crowds.

Visiting London outside of peak season means fewer tourists, therefore the queues for London’s main attractions should be much smaller, which is a definite plus!

You’ll have more time to explore each attraction and to take in many of London’s incredible sights, without having to rush along to jump in another queue somewhere else.

Perhaps you’ll even spot one of the Royals at Buckingham Palace when there’s less people to block your view!

It’s much cheaper!

As the tourist crowds subside, generally so do flight and accommodation prices.

Flight fares tend to drop significantly following the peak of summer, therefore Autumn can be one of the cheapest times to fly to London, as you can find some great flight deals.

Accommodation costs are quite often much lower in the quieter months too. This means you can likely score the perfect London accommodation at a discounted rate, and put the extra cash towards your spending money!

Furthermore, many London attractions will also offer discounted rates and run promotions during the low seasons.

The fooooood.

The cooler weather provides a great excuse for warming bellies up with some comfort food!

London is famous for its many cosy pubs, where you can escape from the chilly weather and treat yourself to hearty and delicious meals. The British love their Sunday roasts, so be sure to join in the delicious tradition by heading to an English pub to get one - you won't regret it!

While you're at it, why not taste your way through London and try to tick off several traditional English dishes? Some English meals include: Fish and chips, Shepherds Pie, Yorkshire Pudding, Bubble and Speak, Pie and Mash, and Black Pudding.

There’s plenty of seasonal & cultural events.

Throughout the fall there are loads of seasonal events to keep visitors entertained!

London’s open air markets – such as the Borough Market for food-lovers (check out our separate blog on Borough Market here), or Portobello Road market for those looking to take home an antique treasure – are a must do when in London.

If you’re in London for the annual commemoration of Guy Fawkes Night (Sunday 5th November), otherwise known as Bonfire Night, you are in for a special treat! Prepare to be dazzled by magnificent fireworks displays which light up the sky in several locations throughout London.

Halloween – there are plenty of spook-tacular events that take place to celebrate the holiday each year. A great time to visit for families!
